Helen Slater, the star of the original “Supergirl” film in the 1980s, has leapt to the defense of current “Supergirl” actress Milly Alcock.

As the DC Studios film has been slammed online for its mixed reviews and poor box-office, Slater reflected on her own debut as Kara Zor-El while praising Alcock’s portrayal:

Speaking with THR, she said: “I loved the new Supergirl film, I thought Milly Alcock was astonishing — fierce, strong and great comic timing!”

Alcock’s performance has been the most universally praised element of the film among critics.

The movie debuted to just $38 million domestically this past weekend, with the trades already suggesting the film is set to lose the studio around $100-120 million by the time it finishes its run.

Slater’s 1984 “Supergirl” film was also famously a flop, earning only $14 million domestically during its theatrical run and scrapping plans for two sequels, saying: “I know it didn’t do well because we didn’t make the second and third film.”
