Filmmaker Ridley Scott is at it again while still out doing promo rounds for “The Dog Stars”.
The other day, Scott made headlines for his talk of doing another entry in the “Alien” franchise – one that would serve as a follow-up to “Alien: Covenant” and essentially supplant plans for an “Alien: Romulus” sequel.
At the time, the famously blunt Scott called ‘Romulus’ just ‘OK’ but added that the franchise “needs some help”.
Now, in a new interview with Brut (via The Independent), Scott took another entry of the franchise to task – Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 1997 feature “Alien: Resurrection” – while also sticking by his original as the unimpeachable gold standard:
“I did the best one by far. Full stop. End of the f—ing story. Then they let it die. After [Alien] 4, they killed it. So I sat there thinking, ‘I’m going to bring it back.’ So I sat down with a very good writer; two guys [and] eventually ended up with Damon Lindelof, and we caught fire and wrote ‘Prometheus.’”
Scott notably ignores the two “Alien vs. Predator” films between “Alien: Resurrection” and “Prometheus”.
Scott, who is making an adaptation of “Treasure Island” as his next film, has been hit by some of the worst reviews of his career for “The Dog Stars” which fizzled at the global box-office this past weekend.
