By Former “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ new sci-fi series “3 Body Problem” has set a record at Netflix in terms of budget.
According to the Wall Street Journal (via The Playlist), this adaptation of the award-winning novels by Liu Cixin is coming in at a cost of around $20 million per episode with the first season clocking up a budget of $160 million.
That’s the highest cost per episode of any premiere season in Netflix history, beating out the previous record holder – 2023’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece” at $17 million an episode.
‘Body’ has a budget on par with Max’s costliest series, “House of the Dragon,” with the HBO show budgeted at around $20 million an episode.
Disney+ is higher with the Marvel shows at $25 million an episode, whilst Amazon is the biggest spender of all with “Citadel” at $50 million an episode and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” at $58 million an episode.
