Cult film icon Bruce Campbell, who revealed in March that he has been diagnosed with a “treatable” but incurable form of cancer, says he has five years left to live.
Appearing on The Adam Carolla Show, the actor told the host “The current thing is a five-year deal,” to which the host responded, “So the prognosis is you have five years to live?” to which Campbell replied, “Give or take”.
Currently aged 68, Campbell has not disclosed the type of cancer with which he has been diagnosed but has offered his outlook on how he plans to live with it:
“I’ve decided, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it. You can go down a massive rabbit hole. The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have what you have. I wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.
It’s a whack-a-mole life, literally. Cancer compromises s— inside your body. So then you go, ‘deal with that,’ so then you deal with that. And then you sort of wait for it to then compromise something else. Meanwhile, you’re trying to put out the whole fire.”
Campbell is out promoting the dramedy “Ernie & Emma,” which follows a man who takes a road trip with his wife’s ashes following her death. He’s bringing the film on an 18-date tour of Alamo Drafthouse locations that kicks off tonight in Los Angeles.
