“The Wire” and “Jack Ryan” alum Wendell Pierce has joined the cast of James Gunn’s “Superman” movie which just began production in Atlanta.

Pierce has been cast as Perry White, the iconic editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet newspaper. His casting fills the final obvious hole on the call sheet as all the other key roles have been announced.

The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The character serves as Clark and Lois’ boss with Jackie Cooper playing him in the Christopher Reeve film, Frank Langella in “Superman Returns,” Laurence Fishburne Zack Snyder’s films. On TV, Lane Smith played him in “Lois and Clark” whilst Michael McKean played him on “Smallville”.

Also starring in the film are Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer).

Gunn has also taken to Threads today to slam the fake AI-generated “Superman” set photo doing the rounds – pointing out the obvious AI-generated flaws.

“Superman” will release in cinemas on July 11th 2025.
