Two major and acclaimed streaming TV series have managed to avoid long waits between seasons, each consistently putting out new seasons each year – Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and Apple TV’s “Slow Horses”.
“Slow Horses” in particular has been remarkably consistent – churning out two seasons in 2022 and then one towards the end of the year every year since. Not only that, they always have a trailer for the next season ready to go and the end of each.
Sir Gary Oldman leads the cast and, speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival recently, argued that one of the keys to the show’s success has been maintaining its high quality consistently without long gaps, and “keep the momentum of the show going”.
He understands viewer discontent over the long waits between seasons; “You invest in these people, these fictional people, and then the show ends, and you’ve got to wait two and a half years.”
“Slow Horses” avoids that, but in doing so Oldman says it’s a “struggle and a fight” to persuade people to keep returning every year, and “keep on top of the quality.”
The sixth season of the series returns on September 16th.
