Sometimes, people tell me I’m too negative. I agree there’s a lot of beauty in the world. Still, when you work online as much as I do, it’s sometimes challenging not to think we’re not living in the worst timeline. So, when I see a film title like The Decline of F*cking Western Civilization, I can’t help but feel seen, like there’s someone else who understands my lack of confidence in the world’s ability to save itself. While inaction won’t change anything, some filmmakers choose to inject humor into our complex existence with movies that understand the assignment.

Today, Deadline unveiled Greg Araki’s next feature, a dark comedy titled The Decline of F*cking Western Civilization, starring Ashton Kutcher (The Beauty) and Alison Brie (Community, Masters of the Universe), with Jesse Williams (The Cabin in the Woods) in talks for a third lead role.

Described as Election meets American Beauty, the film’s plot is being kept under wraps.

Kutcher’s Next Project

Ashton Kutcher recently completed work on The Long Home, an upcoming drama directed by James Franco, which tells the story of a young contractor who is hired to build a honky-tonk in Tennessee by the man who killed his father. The upcoming feature stars an impressive cast, with Giancarlo Esposito, Josh Hartnett, Tim Blake Nelson, Courtney Love, and others.

Brie Walks With the Dinosaurs

Alison Brie recently starred in Travis Knight’s Masters of the Universe as Skeletor’s second-in-command, Evil-Lynn. Her next project is the short film, I Am a Gigantosaurus, Actually. In Bette Bentley’s project, Anna (Lyric Lewis) feels small for someone with such big hopes and dreams. She spends her days taking care of her kids, who she loves more than anything, but she wonders if this is all her life will be. Until she befriends her son’s dinosaur toy “GIGANTOSAURUS.” Gigantosaurus (Brie) and Anna fall in love and discover ways to feel big in a mortal world where our time is so limited, just a spec, but time itself is infinite. In the end, Anna realizes maybe her life is small, but she can be really big in it.
