20th Century Studios has premiered the teaser trailer for “Whalefall,” its upcoming unique concept survival thriller about a diver who gets swallowed alive.
Following the death of his father (Josh Brolin), Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes diving off the central Coast of California in search of his remains, but is unexpectedly swallowed by a massive sperm whale.
While trapped inside its belly with only one hour of oxygen left, Jay comes to realize that the hard-earned lessons his father imparted may be the key to his escape.
Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy and Emily Rudd co-star in the film which was based on the novel by Daniel Kraus.
The project has been directed by Brian Duffield, the filmmaker who penned “Love and Monsters” and “Underwater” before going on to direct the nearly no dialogue alien invasion thriller “No One Will Save You”.
The project also marks the second horror thriller this coming Fall to be lead by actor Austin Abrams (“Wweapons,” “Euphoria”), the other being Zach Cregger’s “Resident Evil” opening a month earlier. “Whalefall” will open in cinemas on October 16th.
