Blumhouse Productions’ “Night Swim” is the first wide release of the year. The title isn’t generating the kind of meme-worthy excitement that “M3GAN” did in the same slot last year, but there is some interest nonetheless.

Recently Collider spoke with executive producer and feature film development V.P. Ryan Turek about what’s coming for the company in the next few years, the results were a couple of surprises.

He says work on a “M3GAN” sequel is underway but they haven’t started shooting and are still “aiming towards that January release date that was set”.

The big surprise is that Universal Pictures isn’t moving forward on a “Five Nights at Freddy’s” sequel yet. Turek says:

“That movie made so much money. It was a huge success, and we’re grateful for that. Emma [Tammi] did such a great job, but we’re still waiting for the green light on that. We’ll see… It’s not crazy [it hasn’t been greenlit]. It’s just part of the process, I think.”

Asked what he’s excited for that is not on people’s radars, he says the film adaptation of the video game “Dead by Daylight” is one to get hyped for:

“I will say that one of the projects that I’m active on is Dead by Daylight, which is the video game adaptation of a game that’s been around for, like, seven years. I look at that as the celebration of horror that the video game itself is.

What we’ve learned from Five Nights at Freddy’s is, obviously, steer towards the fans and make a video game adaptation for the fans… That one I’m super excited about, and we’re creatively mulling around what the way into it is.”

“Night Swim” opens in cinemas on Friday.
