Peter Safran and James Gunn’s new DC Universe kicks off with the animated series “Creature Commandos” late next year, and the upcoming live-action “Superman: Legacy” film in July 2025.
Before that, though, will come Todd Phillips’ “Joker Folie a Deux”, which will be a project dubbed one of the ‘Elseworlds’ titles that don’t fall within the DCU continuity – the same goes for Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman: Part II”.
In an update on Threads, Gunn has revealed that at least one of these films won’t be including any such ‘Elseworlds’ branding. Specifically, he says “Joker: Folie a Deux” will retain only the regular Warner Bros./DC branding we see today.
The new branding for both the DCU and the Elseworlds titles “won’t debut until the films we’ve worked on.”
The majority of the “Joker” sequel is said to take place inside Arkham Asylum and is tipped to be a part musical. Jacob Lofland, Brendon Gleeson and Catherine Keener co-star in the film which will be hitting theaters exclusively on October 4th 2024.
Should it stick to its release date, “The Batman: Part II” will likely be the first title to feature the new Elseworlds branding as it opens October 3rd 2025, just a few months after ‘Legacy’.
