By Despite all the reports of serious behind-the-scenes production issues, actor Mahershala Ali is very much sticking with Marvel Studios’ “Blade” reboot.
Ali signed on as the daywalking vampire years ago, and has stayed there through at least five writers, two directors and production shutting down weeks before it was meant to commence.
Most recently the film was pushed back again and is now slated for a November 2025 release. With the strikes now over, the project is slowly gearing up to start again it seems.
Speaking with EW today, Ali finally broke his silence on the various creative issues, offering a status update and saying he’s ‘encouraged’ by what he’s seeing:
“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon… I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”
Michael Starrbury (“When They See Us”) and “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto are the most recent names attached to the script, succeeding from “Logan” writer Michael Green. Yann Demange (“’71,” “Lovecraft Country”) remains slated to direct what will be an R-rated film.
