“Rick and Morty” series directing veteran Jacob Hair is reportedly in talks to direct the upcoming feature film version of the Adult Swim animated hit.

The InSneider broke the news. At this time, no screenwriter has been attached to the project, but showrunner Scott Marder is attached to produce.

Right now, it’s not clear if the film, currently going by the name “Rick and Morty: The Movie,” will be a theatrical release or a straight-to-streaming one.

Hair boarded the series during its fourth season and has directed a total of 26 episodes so far. He also worked on “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe” and “Family Guy”.

Talk of a film take on the property began in 2019 when creator Justin Roiland expressed interest in making what would likely be an R-rated feature. Series co-creator Dan Harmon has also reportedly talked about being in discussions with Warner Bros. about the possibility.

The film would be separate, thus not interfering with the continuity of the series, allowing new fans and those who’ve fallen off in recent years to dive in without having to catch up.

The ninth season of “Rick and Morty” will begin streaming weekly on Hulu and HBO Max on June 15th.
