Stephen Amell (“Arrow,” “Suits: LA,” “Heels”) has scored the lead role in the new “Baywatch” series at FOX.

“Charlie’s Angels” and “Terminator Salvation” director McG has signed on to both direct and executive produce the first episode of the new take on the iconic lifeguard drama which is less a reboot and more of a sequel.

Amell marks the first confirmed casting for the series, which has a twelve-episode order. He will play Hobie Buchannon, the adult version of Jeremy Jackson’s character from the original series.

In this, Hobie is now a Baywatch Captain and following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch.

Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

At its peak, “Baywatch” became the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries and reaching more than a billion viewers every week.

Shooting on the new series will begin in March on Venice Beach in Los Angeles, with additional filming at the Fox studio lot in Century City. An open casting call takes place next week in Marina Del Rey.

Matt Nix (“Burn Notice,” “The Gifted”) serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside executive producers McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.
