“Propulsive” is a word that can be used to describe Apple TV’s Hijack.
The very basic premise became gripping TV thanks to the simple real-time method, and the multiple story viewpoints that allowed the intrigue to build in layers.
To paraphrase somebody else – how can the same sh*t happen to the same guy twice?
Well, it will, as Apple TV are going back for more. They have officially announced a January 14th premiere date for the second season of the Idris Elba-led action thriller.
The first season lasted seven episodes, each an hour long and each telling another hour’s worth of story set aboard a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London.
When it was hijacked, Elba’s talented business negotiator character finds himself drawn into a desperate situation on board, while air traffic controllers, authorities, and criminals on the ground with a vested interest in the flight all circle.
This time around series is switching from planes to trains. Apple has released a date announcement teaser that shows a bomb attached to the undercarriage of that train.
The first season co-starred Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Ben Miles, Eve Myles, and Neil Maskell. It was written by Lupin creator George Kay and the BAFTA-nominated Jim Field Smith.
When the first season became a breakout hit and one of the streamer’s most-watched dramas, they changed the plan. It was meant to be standalone, a single series. That has now changed.
The second season wrapped production back in February. Toby Jones, Lisa Vicari, Christiane Paul, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Karima McAdams, and Christian Näthe are the co-stars this time around.
