Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is having no problems at the box-office so far, setting huge preview and Friday numbers and likely to be the biggest film of the next few months.
That hasn’t stopped bootlegs though with a high-quality one hitting X on Friday morning. The leaked video reportedly reached 5.9 million accounts and counting, with over 10,000 people resharing before it was taken down nine-and-a-half hours later.
Several other X accounts also posted copies, though they were shut down far quicker as Sony quickly posted infringement notices to those posting unauthorised copies.
Even though the clip was removed, screen captures have proliferated the internet heavily with AI-cleaned up screen captures of Tom Holland’s shirtless scenes in particular spreading like wildfire.
The leak comes in the wake of Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey” similarly subjected to a major leak on X – one that reached 2.1 million views within two and a half hours before a notice took it down and suspended the account.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is said to have taken in around $95-101 million on Friday following $72 million in previews on Thursday – and that’s just domestically. The film is on track to even beat the rosiest of projections with figures pointing to a domestic opening well above $300 million.
