Though he’s been expected to return to the franchise after directing “Fast X,” filmmaker Louis Leterrier admits he’s yet to read the script for the upcoming eleventh and final entry “Fast Forever”.
Earlier this year, Vin Diesel announced the next film is targeting a March 2028 release. Then, “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson revealed the other week that the film was seen as “too expensive” and is facing some big hurdles going forward.
Over the weekend, Diesel said writer Michael Leslie had turned in a script, dubbing it the “best script I have read in decades”.
Speaking with Polygon today, Letterrier revealed that he’s not sure when, or even if, he’s making the film. Asked if he’s still making the film, he said:
“Not currently because I’m finishing another movie, but yeah…This franchise will have an ending. They built a ride! [laughs]. They have to finish it. Someone has to end it.”
Leterrier was then asked if he had read the script that Diesel was talking about, he suggests he hadn’t – albeit in a roundabout way:
“Well, uh, I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t. There will be an ending, and it’s great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin and I love Universal. They’re great to work with. So yeah. We’ll see, hopefully”
No word on when “Fast Forever” might make it into production at this point.
