The Batman was… a thing. It is just kind of there. It exists. It’s massive and long and grim and brooding and I remain very pleased that they let it be made, and let it be three hours long. It is absolutely a fine movie. However, you cannot get past the fact that if you wanted a gritty, dark, real-world feeling Batman then Christopher Nolan seemingly did it all a whole seventeen years earlier. This hasn’t stopped The Penguin from also being… a thing.

Max has released the first trailer for The Penguin.

You can sit this one out.

This is an eight-episode spin-off TV series from Matt Reeves’ The Batman and it takes place just days after the events of the movie. Carmine Falcone (Jon Turturro) is dead. Parts of Gotham City are still flooded, and a fight for control of Gotham’s underworld is about to begin.

The Penguin (Colin Farrell) will maneuver with Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), and mob boss Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) to be the top criminal force in the city.

Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, Theo Rossi, and David H. Holmes co-star with Craig Zobel (Mare of Easttown) directing the first two episodes.

Lauren LeFranc is penning the series and will serve as showrunner.

Farrell, LeFranc, Dylan Clark, Matt Reeves, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassanand, and Rafi Crohn all executive produce.
