Marvel’s “X-Men” casting has begun with Australian actress Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”) reportedly been cast as Emma Frost in the Marvel Studios film according to Deadline.
Marvel had no comment on the casting. The trade claims director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige met with a number of candidates and landed on Weaving earlier this week.
Schreier and Marvel execs have reportedly been meeting and auditioning actors all summer for a number of roles, with Frost being one of the hardest to cast. The finalists tested just after July 4th, with Weaving’s audition being “too hard to beat”.
“Mad Men” star January Jones played the character previously on screen in “X-Men: First Class” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. The character is a highly telepathic Mutant with the power to turn into organic diamond.
She marks the first real new casting for the film outside of another key role, while rumors have swirled about multiple other parts in recent weeks including a recent one suggesting Bill Skarsgard is up for Professor X.
Schreier will direct the film from a script by “Beef” creator Lee Sung Jim and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo. “X-Men” is expected to hit cinemas in 2028 and be one of the first Marvel films to open post-“Avengers: Secret Wars”.
