Rupert Grint to play Ron Weasley again in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

The OG Ron Weasley is coming back! It’s been announced that Rupert Grint is returning to the role which made him famous for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the long-running Broadway play.

Set 19 years after the events of The Deathly Hallows, The Cursed Child finds Harry Potter’s headstrong son, Albus, befriending the son of his fiercest rival, Draco Malfoy, which sparks an unbelievable new journey for them all—with the power to change the past and future forever.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life,” said Grint in a statement. “There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting.“

He continued, “The first time I saw Cursed Child onstage. I was blown away and I can’t wait to set foot back on Platform 9 ¾ and pick up where I left off. I am overjoyed to join this exceptional cast and crew at the Lyric Theatre this winter.“

Grint will return as Ron at the Lyric Theatre from February 2 to May 30, 2027. He isn’t the only member of the original Harry Potter cast to reprise their role, as Tom Felton is currently playing Draco. But the pair won’t be sharing the same page as Felton is scheduled to depart on January 3.

Cursed Child Movie?

Naturally, there has been talk of a movie based on The Cursed Child for years, but it’s unlikely to happen. Even if you ignore the falling-out between the original cast and author J.K. Rowling, Radcliffe has said that reprising the role “isn’t something I’m really interested in doing.” He added, “This isn’t the answer that anybody’s going to want, but I think I was so able to go back and enjoy it because it’s not a part of my day-to-day life anymore.“
