Late last year we heard the surprising news about Steven Soderbergh’s rejected “The Hunt for Ben Solo” film.
The filmmaker, along with actor Adam Driver and writer Rebecca Blunt, teamed up to develop a film that would’ve taken place after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and followed Driver’s Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.
However, it was revealed that Disney’s top brass (namely Bob Iger and Alan Bergman) rejected it despite everyone at Lucasfilm (including Kathleen Kennedy) being pleased with the project. Soderbergh later revealed he, Driver and Blunt spent a lot of time on their pitch.
Now, speaking with Deadline at D23, Kennedy’s successor and current Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni was asked about whether there was any hope for the project. Filoni tells the trade: “It’s not here, you won’t find it here. The force is not with us in that regard; I love the love you feel for it.”
The film was set to take place following the events of ‘Rise of Skywalker’ and put the former Kylo Ren on a redemptive path.
A large fan movement has been pushing for the project’s resurrection, but Disney chiefs have remained firm in their stance about not moving forward with the project.
