Bradley Cooper is in talks to star in the lead role in actor/filmmaker Sean Penn’s new directorial effort – a currently untitled movie set up at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Coming off his “One Battle After Another” Oscar win, Penn’s feature will follow the true story of the early life of a cop who goes on to be caught up in the January 6th U.S. Capitol riots.
Described as an unexpected story about friendship, it will see his early journey, one that led to him later becoming an American hero in the eyes of many during the 2021 insurrection.
The project isn’t being called a ‘January 6th movie’ though, as that’s not the focus. The real-life subject’s identity is being kept under wraps for now.
Penn has scripted and will direct the feature along with producing alongside John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth. Filming will begin mid-2027, after Cooper’s commitments on the next “Ocean’s 11” film.
Penn previously attended a public hearing of the House select committee investigating the insurrection. He and Cooper previously starred together in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza”.
