Paramount+ has reportedly landed “Logan” and “Ford v Ferrari” filmmaker James Mangold‘s TV series remake of his own 1997 Miramax film “Cop Land”.
The project is currently in the development stage over at Paramount Television Studios and Miramax Television, making the Paramount streaming service a natural fit for the show. Reportedly, three others were in the potential mix for the series.
The original film, which grossed $63.7 million on a $15 million budget, starred Sylvester Stallone as the sheriff of a small New Jersey town who comes into conflict with the corrupt New York City police officers who live there.
Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Noah Emmerich and Cathy Moriarty co-starred in the indie film which Mangold wrote and directed.
The new take will be co-written and executive produced and directed by Mangold. “The Old Man” and “Black Sails” co-creator Robert Levine will co-write, executive produce and serve as showrunner.
The project marks Mangold’s return to television after almost a decade, his last attempt being the USA Network series “Damnation”.
