While DC Studios and HBO have yet to officially renew their upcoming “Lanterns” TV series, preliminary moves appear to be underway.

The InSneider reports that acclaimed “Halt and Catch Fire” co-creator Christopher Cantwell has joined the “Green Lantern” comic-inspired production.

Cantwell, who is also a prolific comic book writer and showrunner of the recent “The Terror: The Devil in Silver,” is joining as a new writer and executive producer ahead of a potential renewal.

Chris Mundy will return as showrunner, with Cantwell taking over some of the duties of executive producers Damon Lindelof and Tom King, who are said to be stepping back. Sneider explains:

“Cantwell is coming aboard now because the writer’s room for Lanterns will soon be reconvening despite the lack of official renewal. TV networks often want to have scripts ready so they can start production faster if a show is picked up for a second season, which again, feels somewhat inevitable here — the pending Paramount merger notwithstanding.”

The news follows on from the release of the show’s full trailer on Monday, which scored a decidedly better reaction than the initial teaser a while back.

Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones star in the series which launches August 16th.
