A new featurette is out for “Wildwood,” the newest film from beloved animation studio LAIKA (“Coraline,” “ParaNorman”).
The project will mark the company’s sixth feature and is helmed by Travis Knight (“Kubo and the Two Strings”) from a script by Chris Butler (“ParaNorman,” “Missing Link”), based on the novel by Colin Meloy.
For more than a decade, the studio’s craftspeople have been building the world of Wildwood through meticulous hand-built environments and expressive character animation.
The clip puts the focus on the Avian Principality which rises above the forest as a kingdom of wings and wind, where the rulers of the skies watch over the hidden world below.
The Portland-set story follows Prue McKeel who, along with her best friend Curtis, enters a hidden and enchanted forest cultivated by original settlers known as the
impassable wilderness.
The woods want to keep people away from whatever secrets are hiding inside, including her baby brother Mac who has been taken by a murder of crows and a mysterious woman named Alexandra into the forest’s depths.
Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amanda Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant lend their voices to the project.
“Wildwood” is set for release sometime in 2026.
