Amazon MGM Studios and Mel Brooks have announced that the “Spaceballs” sequel has landed a title – and it’s not “Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money”.
Rather, it’s “Spaceballs: The New One” which is set to open in cinemas on April 23rd 2027. The title reveal came up in a video with Brooks himself that Amazon has now posted onto their YouTube channel.
Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner, and Mel Brooks return from the original which released almost forty years ago now. Brooks was 99 when he filmed scenes for the film.
Additionally, Lewis Pullman, Keke Palmer, Josh Gad and Anthony Carrigan join in the fun this time out. Filming took place in Sydney, Australia in the latter part of last year, wrapping in December.
The project is dubbed ‘A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film’. Plot specifics are still under wraps, but some footage was shown at the event including a scene with Rick Moranis’ Dark Helmet standing at a urinal next to a creature resembling a Na’vi from “Avatar”.
Josh Greenbaum (“Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar,” “Will & Harper”) is directing from a script by Josh Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez.
