The fifth and final season of Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” has wrapped filming with creator showrunner Eric Kripke now in lengthy post-production through to the new run’s release next year.

The final episodes will see the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, the character introduced in the third season and then put on ice throughout the fourth.

Ackles worked with Kripke on “Supernatural,” The CW series which Kripke created and served as showrunner across the first five (of fifteen) seasons. That series also starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan who joined “The Boys” last season as a character linked to Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher.

Fans got excited when it was announced Ackles’ “Supernatural” co-stars, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins, would appear in the final season of “The Boys” and the group have a potential on screen reunion.

Speaking with People magazine this week, Ackles discussed what it was like having his old co-stars on set:

“We see each other more often than you would think — honestly, at least once a month. It was weird. It was like inviting my friends over to somebody else’s house for dinner. I was like, ‘Listen, guys, don’t make me look bad. I got to stay here.’ They were amazing. I can’t wait to talk more about it because it was quite an experience.”

The specifics and extent of both Padalecki and Collins’ roles is unknown at this time. Meanwhile, The Boys themselves including Urban, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara and Tomer Capone, have all posed for a photo recreating the first season’s poster art/comic cover art to mark the end of filming on the series.

The final season of “The Boys” premieres in 2026.
