Throughout the 2000s and some of the 2010s, the San Diego Comic-Con was one of the premier venues for launching movies and television. Studios would come every year to show off their major titles, most notably in the cavernous Hall H, while networks and publications held major parties.

But for much of the last decade or so, studios have been opting out of the event altogether, witnessing how the costly appearances don’t necessarily pay off for them. Marvel and DC went from annual visits to occasional ones, non-comic related film panels have been drifting away, and even TV panels have waned somewhat.

The Wrap has broken down what’s expected at the confab this month and confirmed many of the majors are sitting out this year’s event with Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Warner Bros./DC Studios, Legendary, Sony, Lionsgate, and Paramount all forgoing film panels.

DC Studios will bring the second season of “Peacemaker” to the event, but that’s it – a first look at “Supergirl” isn’t expected until sometime in the Fall – most likely New York Comic Con in October.

So what actually is coming? Universal Pictures will reportedly bring two films, although it’s not clear which ones, while Amazon and MGM Studios intend to bring Lord and Miller’s “Project Hail Mary”.

Also coming are Ketchup Entertainment with a panel for “Coyote vs. Acme,” and Disney will probably make the most headlines with their panels for “TRON: Ares” and “Predator: Badlands,” with full trailer launches likely for both.

This year’s Comic-Con runs from July 24th-27th.
