King Theoden has passed beyond the veil as veteran British actor Bernard Hill has died aged 79. He reportedly passed early on Sunday morning.

Hill was best known for playing Rohan’s leader King Theoden in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy along with his role as Captain Edward Smith in James Cameron’s “Titanic”.

He got his break on the BBC TV drama “Boys from the Blackstuff” which led to roles in some seminal works like “I, Claudius,” “Gandhi” and “Shirley Valentine”.

Other roles included “The Bounty,” “Mountains of the Moon,” “True Crime,” “The Scorpion King,” “Gothika,” “Wimbledon,” “Valkyrie,” “ParaNorman,” “A Very Social Secretary” and mini-series like “Wolf Hall” and more.

Hill will return to TV screens in the second season of the Martin Freeman-led BBC drama series “The Responder” which returns today.
