CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer has confirmed via the official Xbox podcast that four previously exclusive Xbox games will be releasing on other consoles.

According to The Verge, it’s confirmed that “Hi-Fi Rush,” “Pentiment,” “Sea of Thieves” and “Grounded” are coming to the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch.

That would appear to be it though as it’s specifically noted that high-profile AAA titles “Starfield” and the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” are not currently planned to release on other consoles and these four releases do NOT represent a “change to our fundamental exclusivity strategy”.

Two of those are live-service games with and by doing this it will expand the audience and “give us the ability to continue to invest in them”. The two smaller single-player games are to drive more value out of those games and potentially “invest in future iterations” of them.

In a statement on the official site, it’s said the Xbox Series X|S consoles “will continue to provide a flagship experience for players” and Game Pass “will continue to be only available on Xbox platforms”. It was also revealed that Game Pass currently boasts 34 million members.

They add the company’s “commitment to game preservation is unwavering” and “Xbox players should have confidence in building your digital library in the Xbox ecosystem.” However, Spencer noted that he believes no games should ever be ruled out from going to other platforms:

“I don’t think we should, as an industry, ever rule out a game going to any other platform. We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience. We don’t have work going on, on other franchises.

But for anybody to stand up and say something’s never going to happen, I think it feels like creating more certainty in a world of gaming where you really want to respond to what customers want and what our players and creators are looking for.”

Finally, it was announced that “Diablo 4” will be the first Activision Blizzard game to be added to Game Pass – the title coming on March 28th.

Xbox president Sarah Bond adds that “there is some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we’re going to share this holiday”. The full episode is up at Xbox official podcast.
