A number of names have joined the cast of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” whilst it has finally been confirmed that Jim Carrey will return as Dr. Robotnik.

Carrey will reprise his role as the mad scientist despite the character seemingly perishing in the prior film (though a post-credits scene confirms no body was found).

Though much of the returning cast was previously announced, Carrey’s name had been notably absent from cast lists until now and Carrey has previously spoken about how he’s mostly retired from acting these days.

That’s not all though as IGN adds that “Jessica Jones” alum Krysten Ritter, James Wolk, Alyla Browne, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone have all joined the cast.

All join returnees Ben Schwartz, Lee Majdoub, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tom Butler, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.

The two films to date have pulled in $870.8 million, even with the first one slightly hobbled by the pandemic, so Paramount is keen to continue. A “Knuckles” spin-off TV series is in the works for the Paramount+ service.

Jeff Fowler is returning as director while Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara and Hitoshi Okuno produce.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” opens in cinemas December 20th 2024. Check out the just released new title treatment below.
