A new report indicates that Amazon MGM Studios’ casting process for the next James Bond is entering a new phase.
According to Puck News, the company is sending out test deals to actors in the running for the role – far stronger indicators than online casting speculation.
An acting test deal is essentially a binding contract signed immediately before a final screen test which pre-negotiates an actor’s salary, length of commitment, and exclusivity terms for a role.
Such a deal indicates that formal screen tests with director Denis Villeneuve are getting much, much closer. Even so, they aren’t expected to take place until further into the Fall.
The report adds that all the recent frontrunners being named in the press are basically ‘bogus’ and that “anyone who says they know who Bond is now… doesn’t”.
Previous names mentioned include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Jack Lowden and Jack Barton.
Villeneuve helms the film from a script by Steven Knight with production expected to begin next year.
