Emmy-winning “Schitt’s Creek,” “Beetlejuice” and “Home Alone” alum Catherine O’Hara has joined the cast of HBO’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” for its second season.

O’Hara has been cast in an undisclosed role which is the first major guest star role announced for the new season, other high-profile names are expected to be announced for guest roles soon as well.

The first season’s guest stars like Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett and Storm Reid scored acclaim and awards for their work. Speculation is already rife regarding what part O’Hara might play, with the Seraphite prophet being one of the more interesting suggestions.

New to the season cast members like Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Manzino as Jesse and Isabela Merced as Dina will join returnees Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Pedro Pascal as Joel, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley as Maria.

The new season is expected to adapt part of “The Last of Us Part II” game with the key roles of Lev, Yara and Manny still unannounced.

Based on the awarded PlayStation game series, the first season aired around this time last year and quickly became one of the buzziest shows of the time with viewership growing virtually every week and drawing in HBO’s best viewership numbers in years.

More recently it scored eight Emmy wins and remains one of 2023’s most critically acclaimed series. Filming is about to get underway on season two in Vancouver ahead of a 2025 airing on HBO.
