Paddington, that marmalade-obsessed accident-prone bear with a heart of gold, is set to be the star of a new stage musical from the makers of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.

Currently being workshopped with the title “Paddington: The Musical,” the stage production is adapted from both Michael Bond’s bestselling children’s books and from the popular live-action film versions starring Ben Whishaw as the voice of Paddington.

It’s not clear how the bear will be represented on stage as yet, though plenty of jokes are being made online about getting a live bear involved already.

The production will boast music and lyrics by McFly’s Tom Fletcher. Also onboard are Olivier award-winning scriptwriter Jessica Swale and director Luke Sheppard.

Casting and further details of the creative team will be announced at a later date with a UK premiere planned for 2025.

The books have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide whilst the two films have been released to incredibly high acclaim and strong box-office. A third “Paddington” film is on the way due for release next November.
