SAG-AFTRA’s national board has approved the tentative agreement between the actor’s union and AMPTP that finally ended the nearly four months long actor’s strike.
The board voted to accept the deal with 86% approval according to national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland at a press conference Friday. Members of the 160,000-strong union will now vote on ratification of the deal in the coming weeks.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher was also in attendance at the press conference and says: “We hold in our hands a record-breaking contract that has broken new ground and broken pattern again and again. … We began this journey as the largest entertainment union in the world and we finish it the most powerful.”
The deal reportedly includes a 7% raise in most minimums, a new $40 million residual bonus for actors on streaming shows that reach a certain benchmark of success, and more than $1 billion in new wages and benefit plan funding.
The deal also includes guardrails against the use of artificial intelligence, though digital replicas can be used if actors are paid and give their permission.
The tentative agreement ended the union’s 118-day strike, the longest actors strike in Hollywood history.
