With “The Marvels” now in cinemas, talk has quickly been generated by the film’s single end credits stinger – a scene that has larger implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “THE MARVELS”

Nia DaCosta’s “The Marvels” sees Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) working together to defeat Kree leader Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton).

They win the day in the end, but in doing so Monica Rambeau ends up trapped on the other side of a closing wormhole. The film’s stinger in the credits shows where she ends up – another universe.

Specifically, she awakens to see whom she first thinks is her late mother (Lashana Lynch) but is revealed to be Binary, a Marvel Comics character with Captain Marvel-style powers.

Then along comes Kelsey Grammer reprising his role of Beast from “X-Men: The Last Stand” – albeit in CG form as opposed to Grammer in make-up to explain that Monica is “now in a reality parallel to [her] own”.

The scene itself unfolds in a place with X-Men style gray minimalist design and essentially ties the canon of the “X-Men” films to the MCU. Speculation is now arising as to whether next year’s “Deadpool 3” will pick up some of this story thread or if we’ll have to wait until the next “Avengers” film to see what happens.

Where do you think the MCU will go from here? Have your say in the comments below.
