“Brooklyn” and “Foe” star Saoirse Ronan is set to star in the dark comedy-thriller “Bad Apples” for Pulse Films and HanWay Films.

The Equity contract project marks the English language debut of Swedish writer-director Jonatan Etzler (“One More Time”) and shooting aims to begin in Spring 2024.

Ronan plays Maria, a primary school teacher trying to inspire a class of ten-year-olds but unable to because of one unruly and chaotic student.

With her career in question and the child’s behavior spiralling, she makes a series of bad decisions which lead to her accidentally kidnapping and locking up this ‘bad apple’ in her home.

At first, she desperately tries to backtrack, but when the class starts flourishing and the staff and parents are thrilled with the improvement, she finds herself in a complicated predicament.

Jess O’Kane pens the film which adapts Rasmus Lindgren’s debut novel “De Oonskade”. Oskar Pimlott will produce.
