By Tuesday’s official announcement by Lucasfilm of “The Mandalorian & Grogu” movie raised more questions than it answered.
We know series creator Jon Favreau will direct the project which is expected to begin shooting later this year, and the production will come before the Daisy Ridley-led “New Jedi Order” film.
But what does that mean for everything else? Despite mixed reviews for the third season of “The Mandalorian,” we knew Lucasfilm was proceeding with a fourth season and Favreau had completed all the scripts prior to the writer’s strike commencing.
A new posting at THR says “things got re-evaluated, with plans shifting to the movie as the priority” and the fate of a fourth season is unclear at this time as they suggest the series could potentially switch to films from this point.
Then there’s the Dave Filoni-directed movie which is supposed to bring together the Mandoverse shows. Tuesday’s announcement also confirmed the Filoni-created “Ahsoka” has scored a second-season renewal.
Sources for the trade add that Filoni’s movie is “still on track at this point” but is now certain to come after the second season of “Ahsoka” which hasn’t set dates yet.
Favreau and Filoni are both co-writing “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film which is looking to be the first “Star Wars” film in production since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” began filming over five years ago in August 2018.
