A few months back we reported on the Spinal Tap sequel that was in the works.

immediately, it had the potential to fit into the “Oh no, they are going to ruin that as well”. category. Soon, everything you love could be dead. Everything.

The original cast returns, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean. Rob Riener is also back directing, and as the main interviewer Martin ‘Marty’ DiBerg. The story, at the moment, is:

England’s loudest and most punctual band, reuniting for one final concert.

I wonder if they will take the mickey out of the Rolling Stones? Riener said he spoke to ‘Marty’ about Spinal Tap:

“I recently spoke to Marty DiBergi who said that he was more than happy to take a sabbatical from his position as a visiting Professor’s Assistant at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts to once again document Spinal Tap to ensure their place in the pantheon of Rock and Roll.”

This WAS Spinal Tap

Reiner told Deadline:

“The plan is to do a sequel that comes out on the 40th anniversary of the original film and I can tell you hardly a day goes by without someone saying, why don’t you do another one? For so many years, we said, ‘nah.’ It wasn’t until we came up with the right idea how to do this. You don’t want to just do it, to do it. You want to honor the first one and push it a little further with the story.”

Do you mean the cheque went through? How often have we heard about ‘the right idea of how to do this’ and then been let down?

So far, some big cameos have been added to the cast for this new Spinal Tap movie, including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

I will post the obligatory video clip about going up to 11.

The sequel to This is Spinal Tap should be ready for the 40th anniversary of the original movie.
