Christopher Abbott (“Poor Things,” “Possessor”) will replace Ryan Gosling as the star in the new thriller take on “The Wolf Man” at Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
2020’s “The Invisible Man” filmmaker Leigh Whannell will direct the project which is now being fast-tracked and has set an October 25th 2024 release date – meaning it’s going into production ASAP.
Whannell was attached to the film several years ago but exited at the time when Gosling and his “Blue Valentine” helmer Derek Cianfrance came on board. Three years on with both exiting, the project is back at Whannell’s doorstep.
Specifics of the story are under wraps but the tale reportedly follows a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
Whannell, Corbett Tuck and “Dumb Money” duo Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo penned the script with Jason Blum producing.
It will mark Whannell’s fourth Blumhouse film after 2018’s “Upgrade” and 2015’s “Insidious: Chapter 3”. Gosling will retain an executive producer credit on the project.
