Paramount+ has reportedly announced a January 29th 2024 production start date in Toronto for its upcoming “Star Trek: Section 31” original movie event.

Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh leads the cast of the film, reprising her role of Emperor Philippa Georgiou from “Star Trek: Discovery”. Shooting will reportedly run through the end of March.

The film sees her joining a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and facing the sins of her past.

The film is expected to explore more about the autonomous and clandestine organisation that first appeared in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”.

The group acts as a counterbalance to the utopian portrayal of the Federation, carrying out covert operations that get the task done by any means necessary.

The project will be directed and executive produced by Olatunde Osunsanmi from a screenplay by Craig Sweeny.

Yeoh, Sweeny, Alex Kurtzman, Aaron Baiers, Rod Rodenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber executive produce.
