Amazon MGM Studios and IMAX have announced that the upcoming live-action He-Man film “Masters of the Universe” is going big.
Specifically, the title will be coming to IMAX theatres worldwide when it premieres this coming Friday, June 5th.
This was not originally scheduled, and IMAX announced the sudden news on social media, along with showing off an IMAX-exclusive poster for the film.
Previously, Disney’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was supposed to have IMAX screens locked up for a three-week period, but that no longer seems to be the case, and there’s no official reason why.
That film’s soft reception and current box-office projections suggest it will suffer a large 69% drop in its second domestic weekend.
‘Masters,’ meanwhile, is currently seeing its estimates rising higher with a $35-45 million domestic debut weekend projected.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as Adam Glenn, an office worker who believes that he’s the scion of the techno-magical world Eternia, and that he was sent to Earth to protect him and his mystical Power Sword from the skull-faced sorcerer Skeletor (Jared Leto). His fantasies turn out to be reality when his childhood friend Teela (Camila Mendes), now a warrior in the resistance against Skeletor, comes to collect him.
