Warner Bros. Pictures and Mojang have announced that the sequel to last year’s “A Minecraft Movie” has scored a new title – “A Minecraft Movie Squared”.
Production is currently underway in New Zealand on the sequel, and the first featurette about the film has just been released as part of the Minecraft Live event.
In the clip, actors Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Kirsten Dunst, Matt Berry and Danielle Brooks are all seen during downtime from production.
Filmmaker Jared Hess, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Galletta, also appears to announce the kick-off of a contest for creators to build something in the “Minecraft” video game that could be featured in the movie or the end credits.
The winner of the challenge will also get to attend a private screening of the sequel with their friends. Further details are up on the Minecraft official site.
Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Momoa and the late Jill Messick produce the film which opens in cinemas on July 23rd 2027.
