More numbers keep coming in, and it looks as though “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is going to hit the lower end of box-office estimates domestically – but is making up for a bit overseas.
The “Star Wars” title is now tracking for around $82 million three-day domestically and a four-day holiday haul of around $98 million, though it could vary by a few million either way. The film is pulling in a quite good A- CinemaScore.
International, which only covers through to Sunday, as everywhere else is a regular weekend, is tracking for a $69 million start. That pushes the worldwide debut to a total of $167 million.
Curry Barker’s “Obsession” is the real showstopping story here – the title is now headed for a $21.5 million three-day and a $27 million four-day domestic haul in its second weekend, the title growing by 26% in its second weekend. Made for under $1 million, the film is already at $55 million domestically and will almost certainly pass the $100 million mark by the end of its run.
“Michael,” meanwhile, is at $18.5 million for the three-day and $23.6 million for the four-day, bringing its fifth weekend domestic total up to $318 million.
The Walter Hamada-produced horror film “Passenger” is debuting with $8.5 million for the three-day and $10.2 million for the four-day – not bad for a film made for $15 million.
Boots Riley’s “I Love Boosters” is faring quieter with $3.9 million for the three-day and $4.6 million for the four-day.
