Amazon Prime Video has revealed the first trailer for “Midnight Mass,” “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” series creator Mike Flanagan’s new TV series adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel “Carrie”.
The eight-episode series marks the first time the story has been adapted for series television. In the new take, misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan).
After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.
Flanagan previously confirmed that those hoping for a faithful adaptation had better look elsewhere as he doesn’t see the point in doing it that way as Brian DePalma’s 1976 feature he still sees as having “adapted it faithfully and beautifully”.
The new take is a story that’s on a much larger scale, introducing various other characters with their own abilities. While it will retain key themes and characters, some key scenes will be very different including the prom.
The cast includes Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle.
“Carrie” will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 7th.
