The legend of Bruce Lee continues to evolve with a fascinating new documentary that dives into one of cinema’s greatest “what ifs.” Broken Rhythm, directed by Alan Canvan, is the first feature-length film to fully explore Lee’s unfinished masterpiece Game of Death – and the vision behind it.
Before his untimely death, Lee shot a series of scenes in 1972 that hinted at something far more ambitious than a traditional martial arts film. These fragments, later reworked into the 1978 release, only scratched the surface of what Lee intended. Through Broken Rhythm, audiences are taken behind the scenes of a project that aimed to redefine storytelling, with Lee envisioning layered, philosophical “multi-level films” long before such concepts became mainstream.
Guided by producer André Morgan, who worked on both versions, the documentary unpacks the complex journey from Lee’s original concept to the compromised final product. Featuring rare archival footage and interviews with collaborators like Dan Inosanto and Ji Han Jae, the film offers fresh insight into Lee’s creative mind.
More than a retrospective, Broken Rhythm repositions Bruce Lee as a visionary filmmaker – not just an icon, but an artist chasing cinematic immortality.
