Marvel alum Megan McDonnell has boarded the writing team of MGM and Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming live-action “Tomb Raider” TV series according to Variety.
The screenwriter wrote the third and fourth episodes of “WandaVision,” co-wrote “The Marvels” film, and was involved in the upcoming “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” series.
More recently she worked on episodes of the upcoming Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly-led sci-fi series “Dark Matter” based on the novel by Blake Crouch.
Playwright, writer, producer and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag,” “Killing Eve,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) is spearheading the production team behind this adaptation of the celebrated video game series.
Earlier this year, Waller-Bridge told Vanity Fair the series plans to take some risks with the property: “There’s room to do something really quite dangerous. And if I can do something dangerous and exciting with Tomb Raider, I already have an audience of people who love Lara and hopefully will continue to.”
The series is reportedly part of a larger cinematic universe announced back in January with a movie adaptation also on the way that is currently slated to crossover with the television series.
Both the film and TV are still in very early pre-production or development phases so it’s unclear which one is coming first. A new game from Crystal Dynamics will tie into this shared universe.
Completely separate from this is the new Netflix anime series “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” which will premiere next year.
