Apple TV+ has released the finale of the third season of its acclaimed darkly comedic spy thriller series “Slow Horses” today on the service.

With that release comes the question – when will see the fourth season? The series famously films two seasons back-to-back – the first two seasons were shot together, then the third and fourth were shot earlier this year.

The first season premiered April 2022, the second December 2022, and the third in November this year. With a fourth season still in post-production, a 2024 release seems certain – but when?

Showrunner and executive producer Will Smith tells Decider that whilst an exact premiere date hasn’t been locked yet, he says:

“I genuinely don’t know. But I can tell you that it won’t be later than this time next year. So you won’t have to wait longer than a year.”

What’s to come in the fourth season? A brief trailer at the end of the finale suggests one of the team has died, but it’s not indicating which one (or if it’s a faked death). It certainly isn’t Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb who dismisses a suggestion he has a shower.

It’s expected the fourth season will be based on “Spook Street,” the fourth novel in Mick Herron’s book series. That book sees David Cartwright (Jonathan Pryce), grandfather of River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), finding a target on his back.

Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, and Christopher Chung co-star in the series.
