While David Ellison and his father, Larry Ellison, have been making all the headlines in recent months with their pursuit and winning of Warner Bros. Discovery, another member of the family is stirring up talk of her own.

Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Pictures production company is making a bit of a comeback, according to THR. The trade says former execs Chelsea Barnard and Matthew Budman are returning to the company and have been named the co-heads of film.

More hires are also reportedly on the way for the label, which was the darling of the indie scene for much of the 2010s.

The likes of Kathryn Bigelow, Spike Jonze, David O. Russell, Barry Jenkins and Paul Thomas Anderson did films there including films like “The Master,” “Phantom Thread,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Her,” “Spring Breakers,” “American Hustle,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Joy,” “Foxcatcher,” and “Everybody Wants Some”.

In 2017, the company tried their hand at distribution which didn’t work well, resulting in losses from underperformers like “Vice,” “Detroit” and “Destroyer”. That led to films like “Bombshell” and “Hustlers” being offloaded, and the industry not reacting well.

After resolving debt, Megan Ellison mostly stayed away from Hollywood and has been doing work in the independent video game arena.

Annapurna began coming back as a producer recently with films like “Nimona,” “Nightbitch,” “The Testament of Ann Lee” and the upcoming “I Love Boosters”. The company made headlines again with “The Invite” at Sundance this year which sold to A24.
