Amazon MGM Studios is spending big on films of late – from the $90 million “Crime 101,” to the upcoming “Highlander” reboot at $180 million.

It was thought that their most costly project of the year is June’s live-action “Masters of the Universe” film with a reported $200 million budget, but it turns out there’s one coming sooner that’ll match it.

Puck News reports that the Ryan Gosling–led sci-fi “Project Hail Mary,” which was originally reported as costing $150 million to produce, has seemingly cost a little more than that.

The outlet indicates the Phil Lord and Chris Miller-directed film’s gross production budget was at $248 million, but tax credits from the U.K. and elsewhere have brought that down to around the $200 million mark.

The figure isn’t that surprising considering the scale and the extensive visual effects of the movie. It also suggests a break-even point of around $500 million.

The film could reach that if the pre-release buzz is anything to go by. Early reactions have been highly positive, with the review embargo set to lift next week – well before the film’s release on March 20th. That suggests the studio is very confident they have a hit.

The title appeared on early tracking a few days ago and is currently slated for a $50 million domestic bow, though that number could go higher if the reviews come in as good as expected.
