It turns out the “God of War” trilogy remake may not be the only project within that universe that game developer Santa Monica Studio is working on.
Resetera (via VGC) spotted a listing on the LinkedIn profile of a writer who claims they spent five years from August 2020 to September 2025 working remotely for the developer.
They say their job entailed helping “shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP.”
This fits with a recent report by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who teased that PlayStation was planning to “support several [God of War] sequels and spinoffs, like its own smaller version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe”.
The developer’s last released project was “God of War Ragnarok” in 2022, with creative director Cory Barlog currently working on the unannounced next project at the studio. Voice actor Christopher Judge recently teased (via VGC) that the title could be announced in the late Summer.
The theory now is that this will be some sort of “God of War” spin-off, possibly with an ancient Egyptian setting and with new main characters.
